1 What are really these EM Products? EM is a combination of beneficial regenerated microorganisms that exist freely in nature and are not genetically manipulated in any way. This mixture increases the natural resistance of the soil, plant, water, human and animals with no adverse effect.

2 What is the origin of these EM products? They originated from Japan. It was discovered by Dr Teruo Higa, a Professor of horticulture at the University of Ryukyus in Okinawa, Japan. EM products have been in the market since 1983. EMĀ® is now produced in over 156 countries (including Cameroon).

3 How were they introduced into Cameroon? They were introduced in Cameroon by Mr. Sama David, a Cameroonian based in Switzerland in 2005.

4 Why is it that farmers all over the nation do not yet have a notion of EM? It took us one year to do experimentation in research centers like IRAD; one year to have an authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Indeed, because of financial constraints we are moving gradually but surely.

5 Are EM products chemical inputs? No. They are not chemical inputs. They are inputs from the culture of natural beneficial microorganisms

6 Are these products genetically modified? No

7 These EM products are really use for what domain? They are used in the domain of Agriculture, Livestock and Environmental protection.

8 Who are those mandated to distribute these EM products? Those that are interested on biological agriculture, have undergone training with EM Cameroon on the various modes of products application and able to buy and sell EM products worth 100,000frs fcfa and above per month.

9 Where are we located in Cameroon? The Head office is located at Catholic Church Junction, Small Mankon Bamenda, a branch office in Kumba and Baffoussam while we are in the process of opening other branches.


10 What is the various products use on crops? EM foliar fertilizer, EM improved compost and EM 5 which work as a pest and diseases control..

11 What is the difference between EM Compost and EM for agriculture? EM compost is a combination of EM for Agriculture, EM Bokashi and manure that is fermented for three weeks, it is applied as organic fertilizer and is very rich in soil nutrients while EM for Agriculture is the foliar fertilizer that is sprayed on leaves as foliar fertilizer.

12 When should I apply EM products on maize? It could be applied at planting, when crops are one month old and at moulding. EM foliar fertilizer is sprayed on leaves early in the morning or late in the evening.

13 About what quantity of EM products go per hectare of maize or beans? About 20 liters of liquid and 5 bags of EM compost.

14 Can EM be mixed with chemical inputs? No. Chemicals will kill the Microorganisms

15 How can EM be used on fruits trees? 1 spade of Compost is put around the plant and cover while the mixture of EM 5 and EM for agriculture is sprayed on the leaves and fruits

16 Is EM a pesticide or fungicide? EM 5 that acts for pests and disease control acts like a pesticide, fungicide, nematode, etc. Also, EM compost will solve most of the soil problems.

17 Which are the EM products used on vegetables? EM Compost is applied in the soil; EM5 and EM foliar fertilizer is sprayed on the leaves

18 What are the negative effects of EM on human and environment? EM has no negative effect on human and environment.

19 What is the impact in Agricultural production when you use EM products? The soil beneficial microorganisms are increased; there increase soil fertility and increase yield with natural taste.

20 Where are these products produced or manufactured? The Japanese come and produce EM.1 in Cameroon; and then the production department of EM Cameroon then produce the various EM secondary products and market them.

21 On what types of crops can EM products be used? On all types of crops.

22 What are the advantages of EM products in Agriculture? EM products increase soil fertility and crops yields.

23 Are EM products cost effective? Yes


24 What are the important EM products used in Livestock production? EM Bokashi use as a feed additive, EM for livestock and environmental protection to build the immune system of the birds and animal, and EM 5 use as a pest and diseases control

25 What are the various products use for piggery and poultry production? EM Bokashi, EM for livestock and environmental protection, and EM 5.

26 How is EM Bokashi use in poultry? 3kg is mixed in 50kg feed.

27 How is EM for livestock use in Poultry? 5mls or 1 cork per 3 liters of chlorine free water 2-3 times a week.

29 How is EM 5 use in poultry production? Mix 40mls or 8corks in 1 liter chlorine free water or 1 tin tomato cup in 5 liters of water and spray on the bans.

30 What are the various mode of application in piggery? Mix 5kg Bokashi per bag of feed of 50 kg and 1 cork per liter of chlorine free water in drinking water, and EM 5 is applied on the body either by spraying or rubbing.

31 Can EM products be applied to other animals? Yes. On all species of animals.

32 What is the difference between EM Bokashi and EM for livestock in animal production? EM Bokashi is the solid version that is mixed in feed to boast growth while EM for livestock is liquid mixed in water to build the immune system of the animals and to prevent diseases outbreak

33 Do you need to use both versions? Yes. But you can start with one

34 Which version is more effective? All are effective if you follow the rules and regulations

35 What will happy to the droppings of animals feed with EM products? The droppings become very rich organic fertilizer that is carried directly to the farm. You do not need to dry under the sun

36 Are EM products curative in livestock production? No. They are used for preventive measures but prolong use will prove to be curative.

37 Who are your distributors? The distributors are found in many towns of Cameroon as I will refer you either to the website or flyers and handouts

38 Can you supply if large quantities are requested? Yes. But you need to inform the organization at least 2 weeks before time.

39 Who are some of your major clients? Bamenda City Council, Regional Hospital Bamenda, Schools, farmers, environmentalists, MFCIG, NDAWARA TEA ESTATE, GP-DERUDEP, BERUDEP, GIC SONDASON-Banjourn, etc


40 What are the advantages of EM products to the environment? It eliminate mal odor from environments and increase the concentration of beneficial microorganisms making the environment fresh enough for people to stand and discuss

41 Which are the various products that are often used in environment? EM 5 as a disinfectant and EM for livestock and environmental protection for odor control.

42 How is EM applied in the environment? By spraying or pouring to eliminate mal odor.

43 How is EM applied in toilets? Half liter is mixed with 15 liters chlorine free water and shared into the various holes of the pit toilet for the first time, is repeated after 2 weeks and later 3 tin tomato cups in 15 liters when there is odor depending the number of people using the toilet.

45 What are you future plans with EM products for environmental protection? To do garbage and waste recycling and even to transform human waste into rich organic fertilizer.
